Scientist III - Laboratory and Instrumentation Coordinator - FSP
Job ID R0000034128We are looking to fill a Scientist 3 - Laboratory and Instrumentation Coordinator position working as a full-time employee of Parexel FSP on long-term assignment onsite at one of our clients located in Boston, MA. This position offers full benefits, sick time, 401K, paid holidays, and paid time off. This role does not offer sponsorship.
Position Overview: The Laboratory and Instrumentation Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for all laboratory operations in multiple labs. This role will focus on managing daily lab activities, ensuring the effective use of laboratory resources, and overseeing that lab safety practices are implemented. The ideal candidate is passionate about chemical research, possesses strong organizational and time management skills, and is eager to implement their ideas to enhance our laboratory’s efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications - B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or similar life sciences or engineering discipline and years of relevant experience as listed below
Scientist 3 - B.S. with 3-5 years of experience
Senior Scientist I - B.S. with 5+ years of experience
Key Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Operations Management:
Act as the primary point of contact for laboratory functions, providing guidance and support to laboratory staff
Liaise with scientists to coordinate requests for capital expenditures and new lab equipment; manage the disposal of equipment and materials
Collaborate with various teams to ensure smooth operations during lab stand-downs and organizational initiatives
Manage cold temperature storage facilities, including both emergency protocols and scheduled clean-outs
2. Equipment and Maintenance Oversight:
Submit work orders for lab equipment and computer repairs; facilitate scheduling with technicians and supervise their activities on
Schedule and follow up on preventive maintenance for laboratory equipment
Serve as the point of contact for lab utility needs
Manage inventory and procurement processes. Order and coordinate the organization of common laboratory items; review backordered items and maintain updated inventories of essential supplies
Assist with scheduling, escorting, and on-site supervision of equipment technicians
3. Laboratory Safety and Compliance:
Attend regular Environmental Health & Safety meetings and conduct monthly safety inspections with the Chemistry Safety Committee
Address general safety issues, including updating signage and overseeing chemical and waste disposal requests
Coordinate lab safety initiatives and maintain compliance with safety regulations
Required Skills and Experience:
Proven laboratory management experience with a strong understanding of lab operations and safety protocols.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a strong ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
