Scientist I, II or III Customer Automation Scientist – Mechatronics - FSP

We are looking to fill a position for a Scientist working as a full-time employee of Parexel FSP on long-term assignment onsite at one of our clients located in Rahway, NJ. This position offers full benefits, sick time, 401K, paid holidays, and paid time off. This position does not offer any sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • A B.S. or M.S. degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a closely related field is required.

  • Scientist 1, B.S. with no experience

  • Scientist 2, B.S. with 1-2 years of relevant experience; or M.S. with no experience

  • Scientist 3, B.S. with 3-5 years of relevant experience; or M.S. with 1-2 years

Required Skills and Experience

  • Open communication, keen attention to detail, and good organizational skills.

  • Motivated way of working with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and interact with colleagues in a cross-functional environment.

  • Excellent general laboratory skills with familiarity in organic synthesis and/or cell biology.

  • Basic electronics competencies, including working knowledge of standard communication protocols and ability to solder custom communication cables.

  • Familiarity with basic programming skills, laboratory robotics, automated liquid handlers, 3D additive and/or subtractive design and manufacturing, deployment of custom automation tools, systems engineering, and/or creating data pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain electronic components and supply stocks to enable data-rich experimentation.

  • Maintain a safe, well-stocked and clean laboratory in accordance with technical and safety protocols.

  • Follow provided documentation to solder communication cables in support of custom automation efforts.

  • Upkeep and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, including automated lab reactors, liquid handling robots, 3D printers, and custom automation systems. 

  • Proactively report non-routine maintenance issues of laboratory equipment and instruments to facility management teams and personnel.

  • Provide hyper-care for deployment of custom automation solutions across a diverse range of teams and scientists.

  • Maintain user documentation, parts lists, and common stocks for automation systems, including collaboratively troubleshooting with scientists when issues arise.

  • Follow provided procedures to execute automated reactor characterization experiments to support bioreactor scale-down model development.
