Scientist I, II or III Automation Chemist

Description
The HTE & Lead Discovery Capabilities group in Rahway is seeking a candidate to join their dynamic team whose mission is to invent and deploy enabling automated workflows to accelerate the discovery of new medicines. This lab-based role will involve the management of a variety of liquid handlers and automation platforms used for high-throughput synthetic experimentation. The successful candidate will work closely with project medicinal chemists to support them in the setup and execution of experiments.
Responsibilities
Maintain stocks of common lab consumables not regularly stocked by vendor (common solvents, plasticware etc.)
Perform routine calibration, maintenance, and service coordination for a variety of lab equipment while implementing standard methods to evaluate the following: system performance (pipetting accuracy), chemistry performance (micro/nano), and solid phase extraction performance
Under the direction and guidance of scientific supervisors, implement protocols assessing the performance of liquid handling platforms for chemical synthesis, reaction workup, and purification
Standardize robotic labware and equipment across laboratory instruments
Generate documentation and quick-start, end-to-end guides for newly developed automation protocols accessible to novice users
Support new users on automation platforms and collaborate with experienced users to implement additional synthetic functionality
Execute routine high-throughput synthetic experimentation including synthesis, workup, purification, data analysis, and report generation to support group innovation objectives
Partner with laboratory safety officers to maintain and improve standard of safety within the lab
Qualifications - B.S./M.S. in Chemistry or a closely related field including at least two semesters of organic chemistry and relevant years of experience as listed below
Scientist 1 - B.S. with 0-1 years of experience
Scientist 2 - B.S. with 1-2 years of experience; M.S. with 0-1 years
Scientist 3 - B.S. with 3-5 years of experience; M.S. with 1-2 years
Required Skills and Experience
Basic familiarity with common laboratory instrumentation including, but not limited to, HPLC
Basic familiarity with organic chemistry principles and nomenclature
Daily use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and oral/written communications skills
Minimum educational requirements include a BS or MS degree in chemistry or a closely related field including at least two semesters of organic chemistry
Desired Skills and Experience
Experience with automated liquid handling platforms which may include, but are not limited to, Bravo, Tecan, Hamilton, Agilent, Thermo, TTP Labtech
Experience in synthetic chemistry with a preference towards skills including high-throughput experimentation and purification
Experience with analytical characterization of new entities, especially UPLC-MS
Familiarity working with air sensitive chemistry techniques
Familiarity with managing data sets and data visualization tools (Spotfire, etc.)
