About the Role

We are seeking an Associate Manager, Laboratory (Laboratory Supervisor, Clinical Research Laboratory Manager) to join our team onsite at Parexel’s Early Phase Clinical Unit (EPCU) located in Glendale, CA. Parexel EPCU supports the development of innovative new medicines which are vital for public health, improving outcomes, and saving lives. The early phase and “first in human” trials are the first step in testing these novel treatments in humans.

As an Associate Manager, Laboratory, you will lead laboratory operations that support the successful execution of clinical studies and the development of new therapies for patients. This role plays a critical part in ensuring laboratory excellence, regulatory compliance, quality standards, and operational readiness across study activities.

You will join a collaborative and supportive environment where laboratory, clinical, and enrollment teams work closely together. The role offers broad exposure across clinical research operations and opportunities for continued career growth into laboratory leadership, clinical operations, or other cross functional pathways within Parexel.

Please note, this role is 100% on-site at our Glendale, CA unit (no remote work).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership, guidance, and performance oversight to laboratory staff while fostering a culture of accountability, quality, and continuous development.
  • Coordinate staffing schedules and resource allocation to support ongoing study and laboratory operations.
  • Ensure adequate employee training and development aligned with study requirements, laboratory procedures, and operational needs.
  • Monitor adherence to internal quality standards and partner with Quality Management to identify, investigate, and resolve quality related issues.
  • Organize and oversee laboratory activities supporting clinical studies, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical Practice (GCPs), and applicable guidelines.
  • Support project teams with study startup and preparation activities, including protocol related reviews and laboratory readiness activities.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, devices, study materials, inventory, and operational resources.
  • Participate in management meetings and contribute to operational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support on call responsibilities in partnership with the clinical operations team through a shared rotation schedule.
  • Represent the laboratory with clients and external laboratory partners, helping build confidence in study execution and service delivery.

Candidate Profile

  • Experience working in a laboratory environment within the pharmaceutical industry, research institute, or other regulated settings.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality and compliance standards.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build productive relationships across teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Comfort working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience in a professional setting OR minimum of 2 years of management level experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Life Sciences degree at the graduate level.
  • Previous people leadership experience. Candidates without formal management experience should possess extensive laboratory experience across multiple laboratory functions.
  • Experience within clinical research, pharmaceutical, or regulated laboratory environments.

The potential base pay range for this role is $80,000.00 to $95,000.00. The actual salary offered may vary within this range based on several factors, including the position and level offered, skills, education, training, training, experience, professional achievements, and location. Some roles may also be eligible for additional incentives, bonuses, or other compensation programs. Our Talent Acquisition team will provide details on applicable bonus plans or incentive structures for eligible positions.
